Our Humble and Only Partly Disputed Beginnings

For more than three centuries, the company has served practitioners, collectors, scholars, and the reliably curious with discretion and an admirable attention to inventory control.

The Witchcraft & Voodoo Supply Company was founded in 1692, at a moment when public interest in the mystical arts had become unusually energetic and not always commercially productive.

Our founders recognized that many respectable households required candles, herbs, divination tools, protective objects, reference books, and other specialized goods, but lacked a dependable regional supplier. They established a small mercantile operation devoted to quality merchandise, discreet service, and keeping accurate receipts.

The business expanded steadily through mail-order catalogs, traveling agents, river transport, rail freight, and several arrangements that remain sealed by order of the company archivist.

A Respectable House of Trade

Today, the company continues that tradition online. Our inventory includes practical ritual supplies, objects connected to folklore and divination, original artwork, vintage goods, and curiosities selected primarily because someone in the warehouse found them interesting.

How We Approach Living Traditions

Some products and terms used in metaphysical retail are connected to living religions and cultural traditions. Where those connections matter, we aim to provide clear context, source responsibly, avoid caricature, and distinguish traditional items from modern novelty goods.

The company’s humor is directed toward its own fictional bureaucracy, grand claims, and old-fashioned mercantile manner—not toward the beliefs or practices of the people we serve.
